Illness Symptoms in Pet Rats

Slouched RatSymptoms of ill health to look out for in your pet rats include hair loss, red patches on the skin, facial swelling and anything else that seems strange for your rat.

Ask yourself:

Is my rat acting normally?

Does anything look different about my rat?

Is my rat eating/drinking the same as usual?

Are there any lumps, bumps or nodules on my rat?

Is my rat sneezing, wheezing or having trouble breathing?

Is my rat particularly quiet today?

When a rat is ill he may be lethargic and look fluffed up. He may lose his appetite and you may find his breathing labored.

There are some things above that could be easily treated such as skin mites. If you pop into your local pet shop they should have a small animal spray that you can use to treat your pet. You can also find treatments like this in our Rat Store. There are also some homeopathic remedies you can look into.

But in most cases.

If something doesn’t seem right with ratty. Go To The Vet.

It is so important to catch illness in the beginning and your rat will thank you for it.
